On January 27, 2021, Mr. Cornelius C. Maher celebrated his 100th Birthday in the company of some of the many Scouts he helped lead back in the 1960’s during his tenure as Committee Chairman with Troop 31, Newton, MA. A special Zoom meeting was set up for his Scouts, including eight Eagle Scouts, who joined in from across the country. Mr. Maher, a B-17 WWII pilot, is an Eagle Scout, Class of 1936, Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and a Founding Member of the Nobscot Alumni Association. A former executive with The United Fruit Company (now Chiquita Brands International), Mr. Maher enjoyed the celebration with his three Eagle Scout sons, Neil, Peter and Patrick and his daughter Anne Camille, a former Girl Scout. During the Troop Muster, he was quick to point out that his birthday marks the start of his 101st year! Happy 100th Birthday Mr. Maher and thank you for your service!
Photo Caption: Members of the Nobscot Hammer Crew were on the Zoom call to congratulate Mr. Maher on the occasion of his 100th birthday. We recall and appreciate his guidance and support when we were young scouts ourselves in Norumbega Council’s Troop 31.

The Peter J. Reidy Council Ring at Nobscot Scout Reservation was dedicated October 4, 1975 to honor a Norumbega Council Scout and Nobscot Ranger: "May All Fires Kindled Here Rekindle The Memory And Spirit Of Peter J. Reidy Ranger - Brother - Friend".
1LT Reidy had served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army 5th Special Forces Group. His last tour ended in 1968, and he came home with pride and a Purple Heart. However, in October 1974, Peter died of Hodgkin's Lymphoma caused by repeated exposure to Agent Orange near Bet Het on the boarder of Vietnam and Cambodia.
Photo Captions: The Reidy family visited the Council Ring in Oct 1994 on the 20th anniversary of Peter’s death. These two photos are courtesy of Peter’s sister, Gail Bell.

After the merger of Algonquin Council and Norumbega Council to form Knox Trail Council the merged councils’ Order of the Arrow (OA) lodges —also merged, forming Chippanyonk Lodge 59. The word Chippanyonk means “where the tribes join together (assemble)” in one of the local Algonquian languages.
This pdf is a history of the merged OA lodges: Taunkacoo 487 (Algonquin Council) and Musketahquid 414 (Norumbega Council).
