Distance: A modest 0.59-mile carry in/carry out hike from the parking lot.
Trail Conditions: The trail is a modest hike over moderately-sloped terrain. It is possible to pull a cart if coming from Pond Trail.
Directions: Take Belden’s Way to Pond Trail. → Take a right on Gen. John Nixon Trail. → Pass Big Rock and Canopache. → Go left on Owl Trail. → Go left on Wampum Trail. → The lean-tos are in the woods on the right.
Tenting: Can accommodate about a dozen scouts in tents.
Water/Latrines: Not too far. The nearest latrine is at PondView. The nearest water pump is on Owl Trail.
Character: Provides a fantastic, slightly-remote lean-to and tenting experience. It is very close to the Owl Trail Lean-to, making it great for two related groups.
Best For: Moderately experienced campers who like to hike in and pack sensibly.
Feel: An outstanding wilderness feel, perfect for groups who enjoy a slightly remote and challenging hike.
